Numereous archeological sites dating back to the pre-Christian era dotted Musa Dagh and its environs. Excavations were conducted by foreign teams, as well as Fr. Jean Messerian, during the 1920s and 1930s. Agreements (written in Arabic) between landowners and excavators also indicate the value of the various kinds of trees that had to be cut for the digs and studies.
